Cheese Factory
View up road towards two men posing near the front of a cheese factory on a small hill; on the right a woman and two girls stand near a side door. Typical of cheese factories, the building, which has three chimneys and a ventilator, is built close to the road and has living quarters behind. A small addition made of clay tiles extends from the side. Flint Vinger was the owner and cheesemaker at the time of this photograph. On the reverse of the photograph he was described as "the best cheesemaker in this large area. His two daughters help watching and washing whey barrels." It is noted that he made Swiss, block, brick, Limburger and American cheese. |
