Map is pen and pencil on paper. The map shows roads, creeks, and the Chequamegon Bay. The map is undated and prepared sometime between the establishment of La Pointe County and 1866 when the name was changed to Bayfield County. The map includes an inset map of city of Ashland. The map reads: "Prentices Addition to Ashland embraces Lots one and two (1 & 2) Sec. Six. Town. 47. N. Range 21 West. La Pointe Co. Wis. Lot one, only is seen on this plat, lot two, not belonging to the Bay City Co. Carlton Av. and Front St are each 100 ft wide. All others 66ft wide It is in this addition that, the Chippewa River and The St Croix Indian trails reach the Bay. And for the purchase of accommodating the trade  already flowing in on there routes a commodious, store has just been built on lots 10.11212 B. 19. of this addition. Being at the very head of the Bay, it commands an unrivaled view. The Avenues run due North 2 South, differing from Ashland trailes(?)."
