Group portrait at the Mary Church Terrell Creative Center, which was founded in 1963 by Bernice Lindsay (second from left). The Creative Center was located at 3705 N. Teutonia Avenue and was one of five arts programs administrated by the Inner City Arts Council. Ms. Lindsay is standing next to Lee Fields, a soul musician. They are standing next to a painting. To the right of the painting is Vel Phillips, who was a member of the Milwaukee County judiciary at that time. Behind her is an unidentified woman. To her right is Daniel Burrell, who had been a community organizer and was then director of the Center for Afro American Culture at UW-Milwaukee. |
