John Fawcett Tyrrell, handwriting expert and documents examiner of Milwaukee, standing at left of an illuminated poster, ten feet high, entitled "The History of Wisconsin" and entirely handwritten by him. He is wearing a suit and appears to be holding a pen. He was born in Australia in 1861 and came to the United States as a boy. As a young man, he was employed by the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. He remained an employee there for forty-five years. He became an expert engrosser and was soon turning out some of the finest penmanship seen in the country.
