Cassius Clay at the Pan-American Games
| Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., who later changed his name to Muhammad Ali, (white trunks) fighting Amos Johnson in the 178 pound final of the Pan-American Games boxing trials at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Field House. Both were 17 years old, Johnson earned a split decision. It was Clay's first loss in 37 fights. |

| Clay won 36 straight fights before losing to Johnson. Clay later became heavyweight champion of the world in 1964 and, soon thereafter, changed his name to Muhammad Ali. He held the heavyweight title three different times. |
