| Robert Doyle, Journal war correspondent, took his wire recorder aboard the battleship Wisconsin while it was part of Admiral Halsey's 3rd fleet off the coast of Japan, to make one of his "Overseas With Bob Doyle" transcriptions, aired Sundays, 12:15 p.m., WTMJ. From left to right the lads interviewed by Doyle are: Frank Reiter, Seaman First Class; Ray Zuber, Seaman First Class; both from Milwaukee; Chester Sturgal, baker, of Ashland; Ralph Derdzinski, Quartermaster Second Class; and Joseph Dean, Jr., Seaman First Class, both of Milwaukee. | This image was published in the Milwaukee Journal on October 14th, 1945. The image and article appear on page 304 of the clipping book, Anybody Here From Wisconsin?, a reprint of the scrapbook kept by Robert Doyle's mother. Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan. Stamped on the back of the print, "Released. If published, credit must be given as follows, 'official photograph U.S. Navy'." |
