At 8:30 am, military vehicles pour off of the LST (Landing Ship, Tank) and along the beach at Saidor, New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). Doyle's caption that appeared with this image in the Milwaukee Journal: "A few minutes after the ships hit the rocky beach at Saidor, trucks and jeeps were racing along the beach and into the jungle." |

This image was published in the Milwaukee Journal on January 10th, 1944. The image and article appear on page 112 of the clipping book, Anybody Here From Wisconsin?, a reprint of the scrapbook kept by Robert Doyle's mother. Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan. |
