Le Marchand de Lignery, François-Marie, 1703 -1759
Born in Montreal, he was the son of Constant Le Marchand de Lignery (c.1663-1731). Generally referred to as "Lignery", he served against the Mesquakie (Fox) in 1734-35, the Chickasaws in 1739, in Acadia in 1745-46, and played a role in Braddock's Defeat in 1755. He defeated John Forbes advance led by Major Grant near Fort Duquesne in 1758, but died in an ambush near Niagara in 1759.
