Historical Essay
Lahontan, Baron, (Lom D'Arce De Lahontan, Louis Armand De), 1666-1715?"
Lahontan visited Wisconsin in 1688, traveling from Mackinac to the Sauk, Potawatomi, and Menominee villages near Green Bay, across the Fox-Wisconsin waterway and on to the Mississippi. His book's clear, straight-forward depictions give it unique value, outweighing its blatant fabrication of a fictional land northwest of the Mississippi.
