Kewaskum
Origin of Kewaskum, Wisconsin
Either from washkano = "the road is crooked," or giweskam = "his tracks are towards home," giwe = "he goes home." gee-may-skum, "his tracks are homeward" I cannot say that it explains the above name. "Kewaskum, "returning track" or "retracing his footsteps." In memory of an American Indian chief of that name who had recenty died (1849). kiwa shkum "Turning back on his tracks."
