Kennan, Kossuth Kent (1852-1933)
His son, KOSSUTH KENT KENNAN, b. Oshkosh, graduated from Ripon College (A.B., 1875), studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1878. He practiced in Milwaukee, and after 1882 specialized in tax cases, serving twenty years as tax commissioner for the Wisconsin Central R.R. Kennan was known as a leading authority on income tax legislation, and his suggestions are credited with greatly influencing the structure of the Wisconsin state income tax law of 1911. He was state income tax commissioner (1911-1913). In 1913 he retired from public life and lived in Milwaukee until his death. Also father of foreign policy expert George Frost Kennan (1904-2005) and rother of Siberian expert and explorer George Kennan (1845-1924).
