Dictionary of Wisconsin History.

At the time of the organization of the town the name Kendall was adopted, in honor of James Kindel, Sr., the earliest settler and pioneer of the town. The county board concluded to change the orthography of the name from Kindel to Kendall as it would be more easily written and spoken.
