see Jolliet. Signatures on his surviving manuscripts usually spell the name with two "l"'s although both versions are common in 19th and 20th century references to him. The Wisconsin HIstorical Society has not been entirely consistent in its own usage over the past 150 years, but the double-L form is employed most often in its publications.
