Horton, Alonzo E. 1813 - 1909
Horton (1813-1909) arrived in Wisconsin around 1836 and first settled in Milwaukee. In 1848 he entered a tract of land at the site of Hortonville, in Outagamie Co., and built a sawmill there. The village plat was filed in 1849. Horton followed the gold rush to California in 1849, but did not remain there permanently until 1862, settling first at San Francisco but in 1867 moving to San Diego, where he became the primary force in developing that city.
