businessman, b. Bangor, Maine. He moved to Wisconsin in 1848, settling in Milwaukee where he became a partner of Daniel Wells, Jr. (q.v.), in a farm produce and shipping business. In 1850 Wells retired from the firm and Hill was joined by his brother, Joseph F. Hill. This company was one of the earliest shippers of wheat and wool from Wisconsin to eastern markets. Hill was also an organizer and president of the Milwaukee and Beloit R.R. Co., a director and president of the Milwaukee board of trade, and an organizer and president (1860-1861) of the Milwaukee chamber of commerce.
