Hazelton, George Cochrane 1832 - 1922
Iawyer, politician, Congressman, b. Chester, Rockingham County, N.H. He was the brother of Gerry Whiting Hazelton (q.v.). He graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y. (1858), studied law, and was admitted to the New York bar in 1858. In 1863 he moved to Wisconsin, settling in Boscobel where he set up a law practice. A Republican, he served for several years as district attorney of Grant County, and was state senator (1868-1871). In 1876 he was elected to Congress and served 3 terms (Mar. 1877-Mar. 1883). After leaving Congress, he opened a law practice in Washington, D.C., and practiced in the East until his death. Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong. (1928); J. R. Berryman, ed., Bench and Bar of Wis.
