Hanchett, Luther 1825 - 1862
lawyer, politician, Congressman, b. Middlebury, Ohio. He studied law in Ohio, and was admitted to the bar in 1846. In 1848 he moved to Wisconsin, settling at Plover where he practiced law, engaged in lumbering and mining enterprises, and served for several years as district attorney of Portage County. A Republican, he was state senator (1857-1860). In 1860 he was elected to Congress and served from Mar., 1861, until his death. Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong. (1928); J. R.
