part-Chippewa Catholic priest, b. Gordon, Douglas County. He studied in St. Paul and at the Univ. of Innsbruck, Austria, and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1913. He was assigned to the Ashland parish (1913-1914), and from 1914 to 1917 worked with the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions in Washington, D.C. Returning to Wisconsin in 1917, he was assigned to the mission at Reserve on Lac Court d'Oreilles; with this as his headquarters, he officiated at six Chippewa Indian missions (1917-1924). After 1924 he served as pastor at Centuria, Polk County, and continued his missionary activities. Gordon was an outstanding leader in the movement to convert and Americanize the Chippewa. Wis. Mag.
