1) So called by Green Bay residents from a mock battle fought there in June 1825 by French voyageurs. Henry and Elizabeth Baird were present and recalled it in their memoirs.

2) Another local historian claims, however, that Egg Harbor was named by Mr. Increase Claflin. He named it Egg Harbor because in the process of retreiving a horse shoe out of the harbor, he found a nest full of duck's eggs.
