Congregational clergyman, b. Lee, Mass. He was educated at Phillips' Academy, Andover, Mass. He moved to Indiana in 1835 and to Walworth County, Wis., in 1838. In 1850 he settled in Reedsburg, where he helped organize a Congregational Church in 1851. Asked to be pastor of the church, he was licensed to preach (1852), was ordained evangelist (1853), and officially installed in the Reedsburg church (1859). His sermons were considered "radical" pronouncements favoring temperance and condemning slavery, profanity, and Sabbath-breaking. He preached his last sermon in 1867.
