Dictionary of Wisconsin History.

Thomas Carron was a Menominee chief, usually known as Tomah, born in Green Bay in 1752. Tomah was a great orator and hunter, friendly to the whites, and served as chief of the Menominee for years.

He refused to join the uprisings against the Americans during the Revolutionary War and prevented his people from joining Tecumseh's confederation in 1811. In the War of 1812 he aided the British, taking part in the capture of Mackinac and the siege of Fort Meigs and Sandusky. The city of Tomah is named for him.
