Early Life
Otto Bosshard was born in Bangor, WI. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1898 and the Georgetown College Law School in Washington, D.C. in 1900.
Career
He returned to La Crosse, set up a law practice, and served as district attorney from 1903 until 1909. A leader in the La Follette wing of the Progressive party, he was active as an organizer and stump speaker. He was elected to the state senate in 1910 and re-elected in 1912 where he served until 1916. He helped push through much of the progressive Republican program and, after World War I, he supported the conservative wing of the party.
He was president of the Holmen Canning Company from 1916 until 1934, was a director of several banks, and president of the Holmen bank.
