Augustus Leon Beier was a physician born in Antigo, Wisconsin. He graduated from the Wisconsin College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1907.

He practiced at Marinette and Appleton before becoming assistant superintendent of the Northern Wisconsin Colony and Training School at Chippewa Falls in 1908. He was promoted to the superintendency in 1919, a position that he held until his death. He was the author of many articles on epilepsy and feeble-mindedness.
