lawyer, Congressman, judge, b. Hartford. He attended Lombard Univ. (now Knox College), Galesburg, Ill. Returning to Hartford, he taught for several years in the high school and studied law in West Bend. He was editor of the West Bend Republican (1872-1873), and in 1873 was admitted to the bar and set up a law practice. A Republican, he was superintendent of schools for Washington County (1876- 1880), and was a delegate to the Republican national convention (1884).
