Edwin Hale Abbot was a lawyer and railroad executive born in Beverly, Massachusetts.

He graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelors of Art in 1855, a Masters of Art in 1858 and a Bachelors of Law in 1862. He practiced law in Boston from 1862 to 1876 and then came to Milwaukee as general solicitor and director of the Wisconsin Central Railroad. In 1890 he became its president and treasurer. Abbot was the author of the 1879 Wisconsin Central plan of corporate organization by which control of the corporation was vested in bondholders through preservation to them of voting power on stock.
