Day One: Eagle/Milwaukee Tour

In an around the southeastern corner of Wisconsin, ribbons of quiet country roads, high-speed Interstates and bustling city streets beckon you to take a journey of discovery through the state's settlement in the 19th century. Follow trails blazed by settlers who saw the promise of Wisconsin, and rediscover the pioneer spirit that sustained these immigrant farmers, merchants and craftsmen in pursuit of their dreams. Begin your trek back in time at the Midwest's largest museum of living history, Old World Wisconsin, and wind up your excursion at Wade House in Sheboygan County.

Day Two: Milwaukee/Kohler/Sheboygan Tour

Spend your morning further exploring the many faces of Milwaukee. Tour the 37-room 1892 Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion, home of the famous German beer baron, real estate developer and philanthropist. Later, enjoy lunch aboard the Edelweiss, as it cruises the Milwaukee River through the heart of the city and into Lake Michigan for fabulous views of the city skyline. After lunch, get a "taste" of Milwaukee's sudsy history with a tour of the Miller Brewing Company. As you bid adieu to Wisconsin's largest city, head 60 miles north on Highway 43 to Kohler. The Kohler Company, the world-renowned plumbing manufacturer, offers year-round tours of its factory as does the Kohler Design Center, which contains the company's ceramic arts collection, early Kohler artifacts and a product showroom. Waelderhaus, a replica of the Kohler home in Voralberg, Austria, also offers year-round tours free of charge. In nearby Sheboygan take in exhibits of some of most unique and pioneering artistry in the Midwest at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, which supports and celebrates innovations in art and the work of self-taught artists.

Day Three: Wade House/Plymouth Tour

After breakfast, take the 20-mile drive west on Highway 23 to Greenbush, where you can immerse yourself in the tumultuous 1860s in frontier Wisconsin. Here stands the historic Wade House stagecoach inn. Walk the same halls where plank road travelers sought shelter and sustenance after a long and arduous trek on the old plank road that connected Sheboygan and Fond du Lac.

From the inn it's just a short walk to the newly reconstructed Herrling Sawmill, one of the few working water-powered sawmills of its kind in North America. Watch as a sawyer fires up the turbine-driven muley saw, and witness a demonstration of technology that disappeared after the Civil War. Complete your morning with a horse-drawn wagon ride down a country lane to the Wesley Jung Carriage Museum, home to Wisconsin's largest collection of hand-and horse-drawn carriages, cutters, sleighs and working wagons. Enjoy lunch onsite in the Greenbush Cupboard Café.

In the afternoon enjoy a hike through the Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit in Plymouth — offering a glacial panorama of rolling, wooded hills dotted with serene lakes. Finish off your day with a visit to the Henry S. Ruess Ice Age Visitor Center in Campbellsport. Your trip through history is coming to a close. We hope you'll return for another heritage tour in Wisconsin.
