History Maker Space Field Trips
The History Maker Space is our temporary space on the Capitol Square where we host PK-12 education programs, pop-up exhibits, author talks, public programs and history center sneak peeks during the construction of the new building.
Programs are designed for students in grades K-5.
- 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
- 50 people max for each program
- Field trips available year-round
- All History Maker Space programs run 50 minutes
Field trip groups may also schedule time at the History Maker Space store before or after their visit!

History: In The Making (designed for grades 3-5)
Investigate primary sources and share your Wisconsin story at the History Maker Space! This hands-on, inquiry-based program invites learners to explore and analyze images, objects, and more, culminating in a showcase of their ideas in a student-curated exhibit.
Making History: From the Sources (designed for grades 6-12)
Expand your understanding of historic people, places, and events through a hands-on exploration of primary sources! This program puts learners in the role of historian and takes them through the process of creating a museum exhibit. Sift through evidence from Wisconsin’s past as you contemplate, curate, and communicate your ideas in the present.
Wisconsin Innovations (designed for all grades)
Explore the wide world of Wisconsin innovations! During this field trip, students will learn about our state's history of problem-solving, creative thinking, and invention, while also practicing design thinking as they create their own spin on Wisconsin history exhibits. This program is available starting in March 2026. Booking is open now!
Registration Fees for all History Maker Space field trips:
- $5 per program per student
- $4 per program per student at economically disadvantaged schools
- $0 per teacher or school staff
- $5 per chaperone
- $4 per chaperone at economically disadvantaged schools
