Elkhorn, WI. - The Wisconsin Historical Society announces the listing of the Henry D.L. and Jennie Adkins House in Elkhorn, Walworth County, on the State Register of Historic Places. State Historic Preservation Officer Daina Penkiunas presents a certificate to Kristi Coleman.

The Adkins House is a two-story brick Georgian Revival-style residence that features a symmetrical façade, distinctive textured brick cladding, a prominent front porch with classical columns, windows with exaggerated keystone lintels, and elaborate decorative molding under the eaves. Since its construction in 1909, the Adkins House has retained its fine period revival details and craftsmanship as well as its distinctive residential feel.

The house was designed by Chicago architect Henry K. Holsman and was constructed in 1909. It faces the courthouse square, a park-like area that contains the Walworth County governmental offices. The square is lined with historic commercial and civic buildings on its east and south sides, while the west and north sides contain residences and churches, many of them large and finely detailed.

The State Register is Wisconsin's official list of state properties determined to be significant to Wisconsin's heritage. The State Historic Preservation Office at the Wisconsin Historical Society administers both the State Register and the National Register in Wisconsin.
