The Madeline Island Museum seeks a high school- or college-aged enrolled member or descendent of a Lake Superior Ojibwe tribe for a summer internship at the Madeline Island Museum in La Pointe, Wisconsin, on Mooniingwanekaaning-minis. The Leadership Intern will be guided by the Madeline Island Museum Site Director and select staff through a variety of learning opportunities within the museum, in the lands and waters of Madeline Island and Ceded Territory.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

Individual should have an active interest in learning about Ojibwe history, Tribal government and organizations, and treaty rights. Individual will have an interest in learning the history of the Madeline Island Historical Museum and its permanent collections, interpretive scope, and mission.

Hours and Compensation:

The Intern will work with the Site Director to determine their schedule. Intern should expect to work between 24 to 30 hours per week (up to 480 hours total), including some weekend and evening hours. Time will be split between working on site at the Madeline Island Museum and an offsite location to be determined. The Madeline Island season is from May 25 to October 2, 2024.

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) opportunity with the Wisconsin Historical Society and does not include any benefits. Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions. LTE positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions, and do not lead to permanent status. The compensation will be $17.00 per hour.

Selection Process:

Applicants applying to the priority deadline (Monday, May 13, 2024) will be considered first. An interview
will be conducted either via virtual meeting or in person. An interview does not guarantee selection into
the program. Selection will be based on the information provided in the application form and supporting
documentation and through the interview process.
