Ojibwe Beadwork

Created by Viddy Wabindato, age 11, ca. 2016

The Wisconsin Historical Society is looking for beadwork pieces created by Ojibwe youth to display at the Madeline Island Museum this summer!

An upcoming exhibit will be dedicated exclusively to young, modern beadwork artists and their work! Pieces will be borrowed, not purchased, and beadwork will be returned at the end of the season.

Details:

  • All Wisconsin Ojibwe youth, aged "old enough to bead" through 22 years of age, are encouraged to submit their favorite piece of beadwork for display.
  • Beadwork can be of any shape and style but no larger than 12x12 inches.
  • Beadwork must be the beader's original design.
  • Registration prior to submission is required by April 15, 2022. See registration link below.
  • All projects are due by April 29, 2022.

Create your project at a free beading workshop this spring! We will provide a teacher and the supplies necessary for your beading project. Workshops are open to all Ojibwe youth.

An Artists' Open House is planned for beaders, their families, and other dignitaries to visit the museum in May for an exclusive viewing of their work and the other collections.
