Dine in 19th Century Style at a Wade House Hearthside Dinner | Wisconsin Historical Society

Greenbush, WI. – Wade House, one of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s 12 historic sites and museums, will reprise its “Hearthside Dinners” series this year featuring three all-new menus inspired by the site’s legacy as a stagecoach hotel in the mid-19th century. Guests will learn heirloom recipes, experience hands-on cooking techniques in an 1850s kitchen, and enjoy a family-style meal at these special experiences held throughout 2022.

“During its heyday in the 1850s and 60s, Wade House served hearth-cooked meals to hungry travelers who stopped in along their journey through the Wisconsin frontier,” said site director Alli Karrels. “Our Hearthside Dinner series recreates that experience and provides a unique opportunity to be immersed in food culture of a bygone era.”

Each dinner in the series revolves around a special theme. On January 15 and February 19, diners will be treated to a “Wisconsin Winter” themed meal featuring cold weather favorites such as wild rice soup and maple glazed sweet potatoes. A “Yankee” themed menu featuring corn chowder and brandied cranberry sauce will delight guests at dinners taking place on February 5 and April 9. Dinners taking place on March 19 and November 12 offer “German” themed fare like spaetzle and apple bread. The registration cost is $65 per attendee and tickets can be reserved by calling (920) 526-3271.
