Stonefield Historic Site to Reopen August 20 | Wisconsin Historical Society

Cassville, WI. – Stonefield, one of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s 12 historic sites and museums, will reopen for in-person experiences on August 20, 2021. The site will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. until closing day of the season on Sunday, September 26, 2021. General admission tickets cost $12 (ages 13-64), $6 for children (ages 5-12), and $10 for seniors (ages 65+). General admission is free for children age 4 and under. Guided tours are offered twice a day at the Agricultural Museum and 1901 Farm House on site.

“Stonefield offers visitors a glimpse back in time at Wisconsin’s rural, agricultural history,” said Bethany Brander, southwest sites program manager for the Wisconsin Historical Society. “In addition to learning the fascinating story of Wisconsin’s first governor, guests to the site get to explore what life was like in an early 20th century farming village.”

Stonefield is home to the State Agricultural Museum, which tells the story of agriculture from its origins through the 20th century. Guests can journey along the boardwalks to visit shops and factories comprising the 1900s Farming Village, and stop in at the 1901 Progressive Farmstead to see how much ideas and technologies have changed with the times.

On Saturday, October 23, 2021, Stonefield will host the Safe & Spooky Halloween event from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This family friendly event, put on by the Friends of Stonefield and Nelson Dewey State Park, features trick-or-treating in the “haunted” Stonefield village. From 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., the “Light Fright” experience suitable for younger children will take place. “Full Fright” runs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Kids should bring their own treat bag and a flashlight to the event.
