Get a Behind the Scenes Look at the Villa Louis Mansion Music and Instrument Collection
Prairie du Chien, Wis. – On Saturday, June 8, 2019, Villa Louis Historic Site will allow guests to peek behind the velvet ropes of the historic house museum and take an in-depth look at the Dousman family home including the music and instrument collection on the Behind the Scenes tour.
“This tour gives a glimpse into the day-to-day inner workings of this restored Victorian mansion and more, specifically the music collection of the Dousman family,” said Susan Caya-Slusser, southwest sites director at the Wisconsin Historical Society. The tour will highlight changing in music at the turn of the 20th century and how these tastes reflect in the lives of the Dousmans.
Tours begin at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. Each tour features highlights from the Dousman music and instrument collection. These two-hour tours include visits to the mansion’s nooks and crannies, including the attic and basement! The tour also includes a short concert on the immaculately restored 1879 Steinway grand piano in the parlor.
Limited availability and advanced reservations required. Tickets are $25.00 per person.

About Villa Louis
The historic Villa Louis mansion is the centerpiece of a grand Victorian estate built by the family of Hercules Dousman, a frontier entrepreneur who amassed a fortune in the fur trade and other frontier investments. The mansion has just undergone a top-to-bottom documentary restoration that has returned the Dousman home to the splendor of its 1890s heyday, using British Arts and Crafts interior designs inspired by famed designer William Morris.
