Join Local Archaeologists for a Walking Tour of Effigy Mounds at Lizard Mound County Park on May 11
West Bend, Wis. - Celebrate Wisconsin Archaeology Month in May and join archaeologists from the Wisconsin Historical Society and UW-Milwaukee for a walking tour of effigy mounds at Lizard Mound County Park on May 11 from 1:00-2:30 pm. Lizard Mound County Park is home to the largest-documented array of burial mounds known in Eastern Wisconsin.
Built between AD 750 and AD 1200, the mounds within the park commemorate the final resting places of local late Woodland community members.
Lizard Mound County Park is located on the south side of County Highway A, approximately one-half mile east of State Highway 144, on the northeast edge of West Bend, Wisconsin.
The event is free and attendees are asked to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Tour will involve some walking on unpaved trails and will take just over an hour.
