Discover the History of Your Home at the Wisconsin Historical Society on Saturday, Oct. 13
Madison, Wis. - In celebration of Archives Month, the Wisconsin Historical Society is holding a special event, “If Walls Could Talk: Researching the History of Your Home” that will help the public learn how to discover the history of their home or neighborhood. The event will take place on Saturday, October 13 from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm at the Wisconsin Historical Society headquarters.
“This event is perfect for anyone who has ever wanted to start researching their home or neighborhood and doesn’t know where to start,” said Lisa Saywell, director of public services for library and archives at the Wisconsin Historical Society. “Staff will help attendees get started and then they can further their research by using resources in the Society’s library and archives.”
The event is free and open to the public. Guests can drop in during the event and see examples from the Society’s research collections that are dedicated to homes, communities and the archival spaces that we live in.
Some of the materials that guests will learn how to use include maps, manuscripts, government records and photographs in the Society collection. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and get attendees started in their research.
The Society headquarters are located at 816 State Street in Madison, on the UW-Campus Mall.
