H.H. Bennett Studio to Demonstrate the Way Silent Films Were Made

Wisconsin Dells, WI. – On Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 7:00 pm, H.H. Bennett Studio will present, “Silver Screen Silence: A Silent Film Demonstration.” This special event will feature guest speaker, Jörg Rochlitzer, who will take us back to the time of Edison phonographs and Lumiere motion picture displays.

“Guests will be able to experience the moving film that started it all,” said David Rambow, site director of H.H. Bennett Studio. “Most people may not know that H. H. Bennett corresponded with Eadweard Muybridge, the first man to create a motion picture in the 1870s.”

The Bennett family also made silent films. Miriam Bennett, daughter of Henry Hamilton Bennett, was also an accomplished photographer. By 1930, she had begun using a 16mm camera to make various films, some of which will be shown during this event.

During the demonstration, guests will see the way in which hand cranked movies are made using original equipment. The studio will also show a variety of early films. The event will be held on the 2nd floor of the studio in the Reese Gallery.

This special event is included in the cost of admission.  Adults (age 13-64): $10, Seniors (65+): $8, Children (5-12): $5, and Children 4 & under are free.  All Wisconsin Historical Society members receive free admission to the site. For more information about this event visitwww.hhbennettstudio.wisconsinhistory.org.
