August 22, 2018 - Celebrate 100 Years of Dr. Fannie Frazier Hicklin
For Immediate Release
We would like to invite you to join the Wisconsin Historical Foundation Board of Directors and the Wisconsin Historical Society Board of Curators, when we will be recognizing Dr. Fannie Frazier Hicklin at a celebration of her 100th birthday. The event will take place on Friday, August 24, 2018, from 6:00-7:00 pm at the Wisconsin Historical Society headquarters building
In 1964, Dr. Hicklin became the first African-American professor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she taught for 24 years, served as the chair of the theater department and directed more than 50 productions. In 1966, the school named a campus theatre Hicklin Studio in her honor.
She served on the Wisconsin Historical Society’s Board of Curators for 27 years (1977-2004) and was its first African American president from 1991-1995 when she also served on the Wisconsin Historical Foundation Board.
Dr. Hicklin earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in speech and theatre from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, respectively, and is a proud 75-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
This event is closed to the public but the media is invited to attend. The celebration will be held at the Wisconsin Historical Society Headquarters, 816 State Street, Madison, WI.
Let me know if you would like to attend and speak with Dr. Hicklin as well as others about her positive influence and dedication to education, theater and history.
Thanks for your consideration.
