Wisconsin Historical Society to Present the Reuben Gold Thwaites Award to the Juneau County Historical Society

Mauston, Wis. – On Tuesday, August 21 at 6:00 pm the Wisconsin Historical Society will present the Juneau County Historical Society with the Reuben Gold Thwaites Award at the Boorman House, 211 N. Union Street, Mauston. This award recognizes the impact of the Juneau County Historical Society’s services, and the role it has played in preserving and sharing the unique history of this community.

“The Juneau County Historical Society continues to exemplify excellence in collecting, preserving and sharing the history of Juneau County,” said Christian Overland, Ruth and Hartley Barker Director for the Wisconsin Historical Society. “Their archival collections are extensive and the multiple partnerships they continue to develop, including their longtime affiliation with the Wisconsin Historical Society, make them stewards of history for the present and the future.”

The Juneau County Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the collection, preservation and sharing of Juneau County history. The group first legally organized in 1963 and became an affiliate of the Wisconsin Historical Society the same year. The Juneau County Historical Society owns two historic properties; the Boorman House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Stewart’s Chapel, a property in the rural Town of Lindina. The Juneau County Historical Society is working with the Wisconsin Historical Society to list this 1874 wood-frame church in the National Register of Historic Places.

The event is open to the public and will feature readings, singing and piano playing as well as a presentation of the trophy by Christian Overland, Ruth and Hartley Barker Director of the Wisconsin Historical Society. Light refreshments will be available after the presentation.
