Access Digital Collections Found on FamilySearch.org | Wisconsin Historical Society

The Genealogical Society of Utah (USG), also known as FamilySearch, is the largest genealogy organization in the world. It holds millions of primary historical documents such as civil registrations, church, probate, census, land, tax and military records.

The Wisconsin Historical Society is an affiliate library of the Genealogical Society of Utah.  This means that when you visit us you have access to digital materials that are not accessible through your home account at FamilySearch.org.  There are some digital collections that are also not accessible through our affiliate status.  You may have to visit the local Family History Center or contact FamilySearch.org for access to these digital collections.

You will need a FamilySearch. org account to access these collections when you visit our Library.

Search the Genealogical Society of Utah's Collections

Go to the FamilySearch.org catalog page to start a broad search by place or surname.

  • Place Search: Type in the name of a town, county or state. Then click the Search button.
  • Surname Search: Type in the last name. Then click the Search button.
  • If the collection shows a camera with a key over it, this may be accessible through using our workstations here in the Library.  Before you visit, feel free to email us the film numbers and we can verify if the digital copy is open to use here.
  • It's possible that your item or other records related to your family history may be in the Society's collections. Note the item's title and then search the University of Wisconsin-Madison Library Catalog.
