For Immediate Release Contact: Keri O’Keefe 5-23-2018 Come Learn the Traditional Art of Wiigwaasi Makak (Birch Bark Basket Making) La Pointe, Wis. – On June 16-17, the Madeline Island Museum will host the special event: Ojibwe Artist Residency with Sandy and David Peterson. The Petersons will demonstrate the creation of Wiigwaasi Makak or birch bark baskets and etching. “Guests will have the rare opportunity to interact with these artists about the process of birch bark basket making,” said Keldi Merton, site director at the Madeline Island Museum. “The artists will demonstrate traditional art forms, but with a contemporary flair.” Date: June 16-17 Time: 10AM-4PM Location: Madeline Island Museum Admission to this special event is $8 for adults, $7 for students and seniors (aged 65 and over), and children through the age of 17 are free. All Wisconsin Historical Society members receive free admission to the site and this special event. Madeline Island Museum is open daily May 26– October 21 from 10AM-4PM, after July 4 they are open from 10AM-5PM.
