Wisconsin Historical Museum Screening Wisconsin Biographies of Joshua Glover and Vel Phillips and James Groppi

Madison, WI. - On Saturday, February 17 from 10:00 – 11:00 am, there will be a screening of two Wisconsin Biographies at the Wisconsin Historical Museum. The first Wisconsin Biography will be “Joshua Glover: And the End of Slavery” and the second one will be “Vel Phillips and James Groppi: The Fight for Fair Housing.”

“The stories of Joshua Glover’s escape from slavery to Wisconsin and Vel Phillips and James Groppi’s fight for civil rights in Milwaukee are great examples of courage and persistence,” said Maggie McClain, visitor experience coordinator at the Wisconsin Historical Museum. “These animated biographies are perfect for the whole family.”

After the screening, crafts will be available to emphasize the messages and themes of courage, persistence and community displayed in the films. This film screening is a part of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s Black History Month events.

Wisconsin Biographies are produced by WPT Education and highlight the stories of notable figures in Wisconsin history. Though they were designed for kids in 4th grade, the stories are appropriate for kids ages 7-13. More biographies and educational resources can be found through WPT Education.

This event is free to attend. For more information visit wisconsinhistory.org/museum.
