Weyauwega [origin of place name]
Corruption of ouiawikan, (Chippewa) (he makes it his body, or he embodies it). Probably some Native American legend is attached to the place which gave it the name. Menabosho, the great Algonkin demi-god, used to assume different shapes. (V). Also "here we rest" -- the spot is thought to have been used as a resting place on overnight journeys.
