"The city known as Watertown in southern Dodge county was originally called Johnson's Rapids for one Timothy Johnson, said to have been the first settler on that part of the Rock river now within the limits of Watertown. He had camped near this area and during one of his explorations discovered what became known as Johnson's Rapids. Saw mills sprang up there early."
