editor, publisher, commercial printer, b. Cazenovia, N.Y. He moved to Wisconsin in 1836, settling in Milwaukee, where he became proprietor of the Bellevue Inn and later operated a stage line. Starr was editor of the Milwaukee Journal (1841-1842), publisher of the Milwaukee Sentinel (1842-1845), and editor of that newspaper from 1842 to 1844. In 1843 he founded the Milwaukee Commercial Herald, publishing it in connection with the Sentinel, but disposed of both papers in 1845, selling them to the publishers of the Milwaukee Daily Sentinel. Starr then edited the Milwaukee Daily Gazette (1845-1846), but after its consolidation with the Daily Sentinel retired from newspaper work; after 1856 he engaged primarily in commercial printing, continuing to make his home in Milwaukee until his death.
