Sherman [origin of place name]
Town named after William T. Sherman, the famous Union general. It was first called Abbott after a prominent family in the community. Because of the family's southern sympathies during the Civil War, the townspeople forced them to leave the vicinity, and the name of the town was changed to Sherman.
