Seide, Herman Otto 1886 - 1943 | Wisconsin Historical Society
labor leader, b. Germany. He migrated to the U.S. with his parents at the age of seven, settling in Chicago. There he began his labor career in 1904 when he joined a local A.F. of L. Carpenter's Union. In 1922 he moved to Wisconsin, working in Oshkosh for three years, and in 1925 settled permanently in Milwaukee. He was business agent for the Milwaukee Carpenters' District Council (1928- 1932), and from 1934 to 1940 was general secretary for the Milwaukee Federated Trades Council, serving on its executive board from 1930 until his death. As a member of the Milwaukee Harbor Commission (1929-1943), he made many contributions to the building and maintenance of harbor facilities. A conservative in his labor views, Seide was president of the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor from 1940 until his death.
