Preus, Adolph Carl 1814 - 1878 | Wisconsin Historical Society
Lutheran clergyman, synod president, b. Trondhjem, Norway. He graduated from the Univ. of Christiania, Norway (C.T., 1841). He migrated to the U.S. and to Wisconsin in 1850, and from 1850 to 1860 was pastor at Koshkonong, Wis. He then served as pastor in Chicago (1860-1863) and at Coon Prairie, Wis. (1863-1872). He was one of three pastors who organized the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (1851), but when this synod was dissolved because of doctrinal differences in 1852, Preus joined with six other clergymen to organize the Norwegian Synod (1853). He was president of the Norwegian Synod (1853-1862). In 1872 Preus returned to Norway where he died. Who's Who among Pastors in . . . Norw. Luth. Synods . . . (Minneapolis, 1928); J. C.
