suffragist, reformer, b. Albany, N.Y. She was the sister of George Williams Peckham (q.v.). She moved with her parents to Wisconsin in 1854, settling in Milwaukee. After graduating from Antioch College (Yellow Springs, Ohio) in 1866, she spent one year at the Univ. of Wisconsin (1867). From 1868 to 1870 she was identified with the woman's suffrage movement. She was prominent in the organization of the second statewide woman's suffrage convention held in Milwaukee in Feb., 1869, and also became a leader in the movement for a national woman's suffrage association. During 1869 and 1870 she lectured throughout Wisconsin and in other states in behalf of the suffrage movement. In June, 1870, she moved to Toledo, Ohio, where she was associated with the Index, a publication of the Free Religious Association. Returning to Milwaukee in 1871, with intentions of becoming a lawyer and minister, her career was cut short by an early death. E. C.
