Dictionary of Wisconsin History.

This small settlement when first established in Dodge county was under consideration for county seat and is located 2.5 miles from Juneau. Major Pratt built the first log cabin in the village of Oak Grove in 1841 and started an inn at which travelers could stop. The name Fairfield was first selected, but when application for a post office in the village was made it was found that there was another Fairfield in the state. The place was then named Oak Grove for some unknown reason, probably from the fact that there was no oak grove in the neighborhood, reports a historical account.
