Dictionary of Wisconsin History.

Is Isle Royale, Lake Superior. Perhaps Minong is derived from "mino," and may mean a good place. The real meaning is uncertain. Meen-oong= "place of blueberries," probably a contraction of Meen-un-oong. (w.)  May also mean "a good woman".
